Bomb scare in JB, police confirm no threat

JOHOR BARU: A suspected package believed to be a bomb here had police cordoning off parts of a road leading to Jalan Tebrau this afternoon.

Traffic was diverted from the city centre leading to the start of Jalan Tebrau, Jalan Abdullah Tahir and also Taman Pelangi after a suspected package was found at a nearby petrol kiosk (BHP Jalan Tebrau) at 1pm.

The petrol kiosk is located next to an international bank and also opposite from the state police contingent headquarters.

However, a check by a police bomb squad team revealed that the bag left behind at the petrol kiosk contained only pieces of old clothing.

Traffic returned to normal after more than an hour.

Johor Baru Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh said the situation was under control as there was no danger.

“I confirmed that there were no threats and the public is assured of their safety,” he said at the scene.

Earlier, police and also the Fire and Rescue Department personnel were called in after a suspicious bag was found at the petrol kiosk.

Police immediately cordoned off the roads leading to the start of Jalan Tebrau here causing congestion.

Traffic flow was diverted to alternative roads.
